September is an important month for the global blood cancer community. It’s Blood Cancer Awareness Month and our opportunity to have some honest conversations about the dreadful impact blood cancer is still having on the lives of too many Australians.

So for the first time, national and international organisations are joining forces to create a collective voice around the theme This Is Blood Cancer, helping to build awareness and understanding of blood cancer and the burden it places on so many families.

I’m throwing myself behind this movement on social media this month – and hope it’s something to which you too can lend your voice.

Sadly, blood cancer is Australia’s hidden cancer crisis and it’s a much bigger issue than is understood. Blood cancer is actually Australia’s second most diagnosed cancer, but it’s not on people’s radar the same way as some other cancers.

We need to change this. That’s why we’re working tirelessly to push the awareness message harder and put blood cancer at the top of the agenda. The Leukaemia Foundation is launching a number of key activities this month and I’d love you to join me in getting involved at leukaemia.org.au/bloodcancermonth.

Thank you for your unwavering support in the fight against blood cancer. It’s truly a team effort…and you’re such an important part of ours.
