Join the ultimate Stadium Stomp stair challenge to help beat blood cancer
If you have been searching for a unique fitness challenge that will help bring change to the lives of people facing blood cancer, then Stadium Stomp is the event for you!
Open to people aged 12 and over, Stadium Stomp is a stair climbing challenge held at iconic sporting venues across the country where every step you take can help raise funds to support Australians living with a blood cancer. While Melburnians have already scaled the steps of the MCG earlier this month, there are still opportunities for Stadium Stompers to jump on board for the event in Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.
There is no doubt that Stadium Stomp is tough. But for families like Alex and Mary’s, whose 22-month-old son Mitchell was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia just after Mary had brought home Mitchell’s newborn baby brother, blood cancer treatment is much, much tougher.
Following a bout of night sweats, Mitchell woke with red dots all over his legs and the doctor urged them to get to Geelong hospital immediately. It was five months before they could return home.
In total shock and fear, they were living out of suitcases in a one bedroom unit until the Leukaemia Foundation offered them a two-bedroom apartment at the Patient Accommodation Centre (VPAC).
“I don’t know what we would have done without it,” said Mary. “We would have been out of pocket and would probably have had to take out a loan in order to rent a bigger place.”
Located across the road from major treatment centres, the Leukaemia Foundation’s VPAC is a ‘home away from home’ designed specifically for blood cancer patients, with a hygienic environment and calming spaces where families can retreat during what can be a very difficult time.
This facility and others across the country have been made possible thanks to generous people like you and by those participating in this year’s Stadium Stomp.
Covering between 5,000-7,300 stairs, Stadium Stomp IS the ultimate stair climbing challenge.
